If you've ever been to India before, you know how incredibly noisy it is (much like any big city...plus some!) At any given hour you can hear a massive street dog fight, fireworks, a wedding in the streets, a random parade, the Muslim call to prayer, cars constantly honking, etc. It is REALLY loud here! Well, our apartments are really amazing because they are set back off the main road slightly and it's actually somewhat quieter where we live until... the train comes by!!!
There are two railroad tracks that are literally in our backyard (there is a fence) and India relies heavily on their railway systems for transportation, personal travel, and cargo shipment so a train goes by every 10 minutes or so. The trains sound like a massive jet plane is hovering right outside your window (plus the impossibly loud train whistle) and when one comes by you can't even hear someone in the same room talking with you. Oddly enough, the kids can sleep right through it and I am getting pretty used to it. It still drives Brent crazy, but most of the time we don't even think about it anymore. I just stop talking when one comes through and then resume my conversation when it passes!
I remember taking Bennett to the park in Norman and a train went by. He stopped everything and just stood there staring at the train.
